If you have tried many different workouts and you are still looking for that x-factor to to fit in in with your weight loss tips, then maybe aerobic dance is for you. Aerobic dance exercise can be both high and low impact, with higher impact involving more jumping and low impact having more dance moves and obviously less jumping. I recommend low impact at first, just until you are used to the routine.

Most aerobics dance exercises, whether a video or in a class, will have music with a very upbeat tempo that your body will instinctively try to match with your exercise. This is good if you are in shape, but if you haven’t ever worked out before try to resist keeping up with the fast tempo. These beats are typically between 120 and 150 bpm (beats per minute). The beat is high simply to get you moving so your heart rate will elevate, to get you burning calories.

If you are a member of a gym you have undoubtedly noticed the aerobic dance exercise classes.  There are also a number of home workout videos available. With hip-hop music becoming more and more popular, it seems only fitting that hip-hop aerobic dance video are becoming more abundant. This is a great way to combine your favorite music with exercise, not to mention you will be having fun dancing. Another popular aerobic dance video is spun off the popular TV show “Dancing with the Stars”. In this video you use mostly ballroom style dance moves to work your way into shape. Your choices don’t stop there; other videos utilize jazz, disco and oldies. I’m sure you remember Richard Simmons’ video “Sweating to the Oldies”. Not only do I remember it, I actually tried it at one time.

Aerobic dance is not just for women either; it’s great for kids and men alike. It is funny to see men who think they are in shape come to a class and try to perform with the ladies. Most times they just can’t keep up, because this isn’t weight lifting guys. When you compare aerobic dance to weight lifting, you will burn more than double the calories.

Just remember, like anything else there are good and bad videos, and there are good and bad teachers in the classes out there. So use your best judgment when looking for that class or video, so that you actually get a workout while at the same time having fun.
