Maybe you live in an area where the winters are too cold or the summer are too hot, regardless, you find it miserable to go outside and run, so you end up putting it off day after day.  With the cheap treadmills for sale right now, you should be able to find something that is in your budget and allows you to continue with your cardiovascular workout regardless of what it’s like outside.  Here are a few things to remember when you find a treadmill for sale that you like.

I learned something a long time ago from a marathon runner which may have a huge impact on you if you’re a serious or competitive runner.  Never run on a treadmill without any sort of incline.  When you do this, you relieve your hamstring of a lot of the effort it is normally required to exert in order to run on solid ground.  The treadmill provides some assistance for you which will leave you in a lot of pain if you do all your training on a treadmill.  Make sure you always use at least a 3-4% incline anytime you’re training on your treadmill.  This small amount will give you just enough to compensate for the treadmill motor helping you out.  Of course, it’s still not 100% like running on the street, so whenever you can, brave the heat or cold and venture outside into the real world.  This will keep those hamstrings in shape.

If the running area on your treadmill is too narrow, you’re going to quickly become extremely frustrated with it.  Remember, when you’re on your 12th mile and you’re completely exhausted, you’re not going to be running in a nice straight line.  You’ll probably be zigzagging back and forth on your treadmill and may even trip a bit if your foot hits the edge.  This is going to be one of the first things a manufacturer will cut back on with a cheap treadmill.  Less running area means a narrower band and a smaller motor needed to move it.

Some of the treadmills for sale will also include a nice added feature which I consider to be almost necessary for anyone serious or even halfway serious about getting in shape, a heart rate monitor.  Most treadmills will have heart rate monitor contacts built into the hand rails which pick up on your heart rate through your hands.  This will work for a rough estimate, but it’s not going to be as accurate as a strap around your chest.  The further the heart rate is taken from your heart, the less accurate it is.  If you do have a strap for your heart rate monitor, make sure it either came with the treadmill or is compatible with it.

One other item you may need to consider is the amount of space your treadmill will take up in your home.  If space is at a premium in your home, consider getting one of the fold up models.  These will only take about the amount of space a typical bookcase would until you fold it down.  These are a great option for a lot of people. If you have a room dedicated to your workout time, this may not be a factor.

Right now is a great time to look for used treadmills for sale.  Whenever the economy gets tight, exercise equipment is some of the first stuff people try to sell in order to make ends meet. After all, most people don’t use the equipment they purchased.  They’re loss is your gain.
