Exercising at home can be just as effective as a fitness regiment at a large gym. However, having the home gym machine and equipment that meets your needs is essential to following most weight loss tips. You first need to consider the level of fitness you want to achieve. Are you looking for something that will give you a full body workout, or do you want something that targets a specific area? If you’re looking for how to build muscle, and don’t care about aerobic exercise, there are some great options.
There is a wide range of home gym machines, from a five dollar resistance band or dumbbell all the way up to a few thousand dollar multi gym. You will obviously get more for your money with fitness equipment that has multi-function capabilities. On the other hand not everyone can afford an expensive home gym weight machine and cardio equipment.
There are three main categories of home exercise equipment with some others, but for now I will cover the largest three.
- Free weights: Pretty much the simplest form of home exercise equipment. This could also be a very expensive way to workout, because, in order to get all the weights you need to work every part of your body, you’re to need several sizes and types of weights and bars.
- Cardio Equipment: Probably the most popular home gym machine is the that addresses your cardio needs. There are many in this category, in fact, so many that I am sure I will forget some. You’re going to see rowing machines, elliptical machines, treadmill, NordicTrack, Stairmaster, stationary bike and more. Because, for most people with a home gym, it’s very impractical to have one of each, I recommend you decide what type of cardiovascular exercise you enjoy the most and buy the most appropriate piece of equipment. Remember, for most people, running is a great, low cost option and gets you outside to enjoy the sunshine.
- Multi Gyms: Some of the top home multi gyms are Bowflex, Bodycraft and Hoist. A multi-gym is one of the best home gym machines, but keep in mind, some of these can run well over $3000. Considering the fact that these will work out every muscle in your body they may be well worth their price. However a typical commercial gym membership is around $30 per month with an initiation fee of around $150. It would take over eight years before that would equal the more expensive home gym. Ask yourself how long are you likely to have the home gym or if it will even last that long?
It really boils down to where are you’re most comfortable working out. I know some people are very uncomfortable at big commercial gyms, while others need to leave their house in order to get the motivation to get in their exercise routine. Think about it carefully, make your choice and then stick to it.
