I have had a lot of protein shakes since I began working out, everything from a very cheap egg protein shake to the high quality, high dollar protein shakes at many smoothie bars. A couple of years ago I came across this shake recipe after trying most of the protein shake recipes in all the weight loss tips and at a smoothie bar inside the gym where I was working out. I have since moved away from that area and now miss, what I considered to be, the best protein shake in the world. The only option I was left with was to make it myself. It took a bit of experimenting to get this just right, not to mention the two, yes TWO blenders, I ended up burning out in the process.
You can use whatever protein powder you like as long as it is chocolate or vanilla. I highly recommend you read this article I posted about protein powder. Obviously, if you prefer whey protein shakes, obviously, you’ll need to use whey protein powder. After a lot of research, I think the Dymatize powder is one of the best powders available. I usually make 4 servings all at once. Here is the recipe for my favorite protein shake:
- 2 Servings of Protein – Check the label, mine is 4 scoops
- 1 Cup of skim milk
- 3 Tablespoons of natural peanut butter, in my opinion the peanut butter makes the shake so add accordingly. Note: you will need to adjust the nutrition facts if you add more
- 2 Large bananas
- Ice – I use 5 handfuls so you will need to adjust until you get the consistency you want
Nutrition Information
- 1430 Calories total 357 per serving
- 57 Gram fat total 14.25 per serving it is good fat too
- 114 Grams carbs total 28.5 per serving these are good carbs, mostly from the peanut butter and banana nothing processed!
- 127 Grams protein total 31.75 per serving
This protein shake has everything you need and in healthy quantities. Some days, after a particularly hard workout, I will consume 2 servings, but that’s me, you may not need or be able to use the extra calories so make sure you fit this into your specific caloric requirements.
Also, please notice I recommend using the NATURAL peanut butter. This is considerably better for you than the standard stuff. Yes, you’ll have to go through that annoying stirring process but it’s worth the extra effort.
