Due to the lack of nutritional value in our current food supply, supplements play an important role in meeting your fitness and nutritional goals.  I saw a documentary called “Food Matters” recently that covered this exact topic.  In this video one example in particular stuck with me, comparing the nutritional value of a fruit grown today to one grown 100 years ago.  In order for us to get the same nutrients from an orange grown back then, today we would have to eat 5 oranges.  This is due to over-farming causing soil conditions with a depleted nutrient supply.  Knowing this, I’m sure you’d agree supplements are an important part of your nutrition, which ultimately leads to good overall fitness which is one of the best weight loss tips I could give you.

One cheap supplement that is vital to your body is good old vitamin C.  Vitamin C is, in my opinion, one of the best cheap nutritional supplements you can buy.  When weight loss is a concern you should know that vitamin C helps to block cortisol, also known as the stress or junk food hormone, making you crave high carbohydrate foods.  This also makes vitamin C a great choice if you are looking for cheap bodybuilding supplements.  Don’t forget, vitamin C is also an antioxidant which helps the cells of your body get rid of free radicals.  Vitamin C can also help your immune system fight viruses when levels are high enough.  Assuming you are balanced in all your other nutrients, a virus tries to invade and cannot survive because of the vitamin C.  There is also some evidence that vitamin C helps to kill cancer cells!  So obviously it’s a needed, as well as, cheap supplement.

I think we all know calcium is important for bone strength and density, but I want to focus on the lesser known traits it brings to the body. Calcium also helps to stop lipogenesis, the fat production process, while also speeding up lipolysis, the fat burn process, making it another cheap supplement that aids in weight loss or bodybuilding.  Calcium also neutralizes acid in the body which is why we take calcium for stomach acid.  However you may not know that cancer can only survive in an acidic environment, making calcium vital in your body’s fight against cancer cells.

Lastly, there is protein, the single most popular supplement on the market.  Protein is one of the most important building blocks used for your entire body.  Protein mainly comes in powdered form for making a protein shake and smoothies but is also available in pill form.  It helps those looking for fat loss because new muscle being built burns more calories while at rest.  So you will literally burn fat sleeping! Whey protein is also an antioxidant, performing much the same as vitamin C but NOT replacing it.
