A used treadmill, like all other exercise equipment, is a wonderfully smart investment IF you actually use it.  There are only a few people going to a gym who are using more than a couple of pieces of equipment. For those people it’s best for them to keep paying that monthly gym membership because the time it would take to pay to own all that equipment would probably exceed the lifecyle of it all.  However, for the rest of us, we’re most likely only using two or three pieces when we go and work out.

In most cases, people go to a gym and pay a monthly fee so they can use a treadmill, an elliptical machine, or a stationary bicycle.  This number goes up even higher for women who tend to shy away from all of the free weights and other resistance training machines in spite of all the advice I give in my weight loss tips.

A quick look at used treadmills for sale will produce massive results.  If you need a used treadmill, you shouldn’t have trouble finding one and at a price you can afford.  Because so many people buy these used treadmills thinking they’re going to use them everyday and end up not doing that, there are a ton of them for sale. This means the supply is very high while the demand doesn’t keep pace.  If you remember from your economics class, when supply exceeds demand, the price drops dramatically.  This means, used exercise equipment is the only way you should ever buy it. There’s no point in spending the big difference in price for something brand new.

Prices for a used treadmill will range from free to a couple of thousand dollars.  The best bet, obviously, is to find a friend or co-worker who “just wants that dumb thing out of the living room, taking up all that precious space.”  When you decide to buy a treadmills, send an email to everyone you know and even post something on Facebook asking if anyone you know would like to sell you their treadmill.  There is a very good chance someone will say “if you can come and pick it up, it’s yours.”

Once you’ve exhausted that resource, it’s time to start looking outside of your circle of friends and family.  There are a lot of used treadmills for sale on eBay, but you’re going to pay a hefty price for shipping, which will make it less of a bargain.  For this reason, I would urge you to check your local garage sales as well as Craigslist.com.  If you’re not in a hurry to buy a treadmill, visit your local garage sales at the end of the morning when the owners are in deal-making mode.  This is when you’re going to shave quite a bit off of the price and hopefully find a very cheap used treadmill.  Of course, if it’s a good treadmill, odds are it will go earlier in the morning. If you need a treadmill sooner rather than later, take a look at Craigslist for exactly what you need.

If you’re looking for used treadmill parts, again, Craigslist and your local neighborhood garage sales are going to be your best resource.  There are a going to be a good number of treadmills which don’t work or “make a strange noise.”  This is when you can pick up a treadmill and just use the parts you need to restore yours to its original condition.  Obviously, you want to make sure you’re dealing with the same model number and always make sure the part you need isn’t the part that’s broken.  Shop around a bit and you’ll find exactly what you need at a very affordable price.
