Regardless of whether you’re moving into the cold winter months or the scorching summertime weather, you may want to invest in a motorized treadmill to help you follow your weight loss tips and goals.  This is a great way to make sure you always get the cardio vascular exercise you need to lose the weight you want.  As much as you think it’s not going to happen, the first morning with a thick sheet of ice on the ground or the first afternoon with one hundred plus temperatures and you’re going to find you have a built-in excuse to not get out and run. Remember, having a motorised treadmill doesn’t mean you have to use it instead of running.  Just make sure you have a plan be for the days when you’re not about to go run outside.

There area a lot of great pieces of equipment available including the Carl Lewis motorised treadmill. But it doesn’t take long to find a cheap motorised treadmill as well.  Regardless of what you’re looking for, make sure it has all of the futures you’re going to want and the ones you will find are essential.  Let’s go through some of those “must have” items.

As soon as you find a good motorised treadmill for sale, take some time to ask questions before you show up with money in hand.  For example, you’re going to want to make sure your treadmill has a built in heart rate monitor.  Most of them have the handle bars you can hold onto with the metal contacts, but these aren’t the most accurate.  When it comes to your heart rate, the close the rate is measured to the heart, the more accurate it’s going to be.  For this reason, it’s great to find a treadmill with a chest strap, or at the very least, one that works with all of the wrist watch style heart rate monitors.  Most of the decent models will pick up on the same signal your watch reads and display your heart rate on the screen.

When you have the seller on the phone, ask them if it’s a foldable motorised treadmill or if it isn’t how big of an area it will take up in your home.  Of course, if you have a room or space dedicated to your workout equipment, this isn’t going to be a major issue.  For most people, finding space for something that large isn’t easy.  Decide right now if you’re going to need one that folds up or not, then don’t compromise just because you found a great deal.  You’re going to regret having to step over that thing every time you go into the living room to watch a movie.

Once you have a chance to see the treadmill in person, you’re going to want to check the width of the track band or running area.  Get on and try it out, but remember, when you’re walking or jogging on the treadmill, you won’t be weaving like you would having just run 10 or 20 miles.  That’s when that extra running real estate will come in handy for you.  Accidently hitting the side rail while you’re worn out and fatigued can actually be very dangerous.

Regardless of what you end up buying, make sure you always run at a slight incline.  Most experts suggest you use a 3-5% grade to most accurately simulate what your body would experience running on the flat pavement. The reason for this is the motorised assistance that takes away some of the effort needed by your hamstring.  Just adding that slight incline could save you from a major injury after an entire season on indoor running.  Additionally, any chance you get to go outside and do some real running will pay a huge dividend in the long run.
