You may have never heard of “weight loss foods or have ever known food can actually help you lose weight, (other than restricting food).  While there are many foods that can help you lose weight, in one way or another, I want to give you a short list of 10 great weight loss foods.

Before I get to the weight loss food list I want to explain something about fat and cholesterol, so the list will make a bit more sense to you. I’m sure you remember back when we were all told red meat, eggs and any saturated fats were bad and raise your cholesterol.  Well I will do my best to clear the fat and cholesterol issue, without going too deep. Most of us have learned about low density lipoproteins or LDL’s and high density lipoproteins HDL’s.  LDL’s being “bad” and HDL’s are “good”.  What you may not know is that there are, in fact, 2 forms of LDL’s, Pattern A and B (aka VLDL).  Pattern A LDL is a large buoyant LDL that float and don’t form the plaque in arteries.  Pattern B however is a heavier denser LDL that will lodge in your veins and form the dangerous artery clogging plaque, these are indeed bad.  It has been discovered that animal fat raises the good form, pattern A LDL’s, while sugar and pretty much all processed carbohydrates raise the Pattern B LDL’s.  So now you have the green light to once again eat red meat, eggs, yes even the yoke and all NATURAL occurring saturated fats.

Foods for Weight Loss

  1. Eggs – Yay, now that you can eat your eggs, you will be happy to know that a recent study conducted by Louisiana State University proved eggs are one of the best foods for weight loss.  The university reported that women that ate eggs twice per week lost double the weight of women that didn’t eat eggs on an otherwise similar diet.
  2. Avocado I can hear you right now, “they are so fatty!”  You would be right, but it is a healthy natural fat.
  3. Hot Peppers – Peppers contain capsaicin which has demonstrated an incredible ability to increase your metabolism for up to one half hour after eating.  Don’t worry about the heat, the more you eat them the less you’ll notice the heat.
  4. Red Meat – According to a study in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, women that ate red meat lost more than those that didn’t.  This helps you retain lean muscle mass while you lose weight, and if you didn’t know, lean muscle burns fat all day and all night.  That makes a good fillet a fine weight loss food. If you can, go organic and remember, keep it lean.
  5. Salmon – Wild salmon that is, simply because they are fed a natural diet that is better for them compared to farm fish. We all have heard of the benefits of Omega 3 fatty acids.  Salmon is one of the best sources available.
  6. Pomegranate High in fiber and antioxidants, 6 times the antioxidant level of blueberries.  For weight loss the fiber is what you need, because fiber pulls fat through the digestive system quickly.
  7. Sardines – Once again high in omega 3’s as well as calcium. Even if you don’t think they taste that great, your health important.
  8. Apples – Oh they’re high glycemic you say, but they are loaded with fiber so it kind of cancels out the fructose. Plus it satisfies that sweet tooth.  For a snack I core them and sprinkle with cinnamon, put them in a bowl with a little water (for steam) cover and microwave for 1 minute.
  9. Chicken – Once again, keeping that lawn muscle on you is vital to losing weight.
  10. Leafy Greens – The darker the better, loaded with fiber, calcium and antioxidants.  Mix them up in a salad to get your fiber.  I can’t stress how important fiber is for you.  Our food these days seriously lacks fiber, and you really need to make sure that you are getting as much as possible.
